New York City

A Perfect 24 Hours in NYC

11/18/2018

I've been to New York several times and being a city girl, it definitely has my heart! Most recently, Pax and I traveled to the city in 2016 for one of our 'wedding year' trips. Actually, I should say it was 2016/2017 because we went over New Year's! While I certainly haven't done everything you could do in NYC, I've listed my favorite things so far. NYC in 24 hours? Let's go!

We stayed in Midtown, but honestly, this itinerary takes you all over the city and gives you a feel for many neighborhoods, so adjust as necessary and have fun!

AM: Grab a quick coffee and croissant and head out the door. The first stop is the 9/11 Memorial. A somber experience, but beautiful nonetheless. From there, we walked to the Whitehall Terminal to take the Staten Island Ferry over to the island. There wasn't much we wanted to do there, but the skyline views are amazing! You'll see all of Manhattan, One World Trade Center, and even the Statue of Liberty.  The picture above was taken on the ferry and although we had a great sunset view, I think it would be pretty great at any time of day. Take the return ferry back (you really could just stay on!).

Mid-day: Once you're back to the terminal catch a cab to Luzzo's BK in Brooklyn. Great pizza and cute spot. After lunch, walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park to catch some more views. If you're in town over the summer and you're up for dessert, stop at Ample Hills Creamery. Unfortunately, the location by the park was closed in the winter. Wander through the park and work your way towards the Brooklyn Bridge.

Late afternoon: You can either grab a cab or walk across the bridge (my choice, always!) to get back into the city. If you walked, hail a cab to catch a show on Broadway. We saw Hamilton and I would totally see it another ten times because I loved it so much. I still play the soundtrack on repeat sometimes!

PM: Depending on how much you like to walk, after the show walk towards the East Village. We went to a place called The Mermaid Inn that was recommended to us. It happened to be New Year's Eve so we had a late dinner after the show on Broadway. The food was great and the atmosphere was so fun for New Year's Eve. Just in time for midnight, we headed to a speakeasy, Angel's Share, right down the road. I can't say no to a yummy cocktail!

A little more than 24 hours:

The next AM: Walk through Central Park on your way to brunch on the Upper East Side. We ate at The East Pole and enjoyed it. Mostly, we just loved wandering around the park and then through the neighborhood.

Well, there it is! Walk, wander and explore NYC. Enjoy!
